Christmas Countdown - Day 7

Yesterday was the second Sunday of Advent! A time of preparation...
Isaiah 40:3-5
A voice of one crying out:
Prepare the way of the LORD in the wilderness;
make a straight highway for our God in the desert.

Every valley will be lifted up,
and every mountain and hill will be leveled;
the uneven ground will become smooth,
and the rough places a plain.

And the glory of the LORD will appear,
and all humanity will see it together,
for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Here's what's happened for the holidays around here in the past couple of days:
1. We visited a Christian book store and purchased a new advent wreath and several sets of candles. It's so pretty and hopefully will be passed on down through the years.

2. We're done with stocking shopping. It's so much fun to find special stocking sized things!

3. We had fun in a couple of antique shops over the weekend. We're looking for our third gift to each other - another joint gift like the mixer - and it's a hutch for our various sets of china and serving dishes. Our pantry is stuffed with too many dishes and not enough room for food storage, so we're trying to find just the right piece of furniture. We'd prefer to buy an old piece and reclaim it, and at the same time support a small business since times are horribly bleak for them right now. Maybe an auction will be the ticket, and those are still in abundance around here. We'll see if this gets accomplished before Christmas!

3. Bought two poinsettias.
4. The tree is up and decorated!!! The only glitch - same every year - lights. We perpetually forget from the previous year that we needed some sort of replacement or addition to tree lights, and then finding some that match the ones we already have, once the Christmas season is well under way, is next to impossible. Now if we had remembered back in October when the Christmas lights first hit the store shelves, we'd have been in business! We decided that we need to put these things on our Outlook calendar so that it pops up as a reminder the following year - can't trust that memory anymore!

5. This little vintage tinsel and bell wreath is my new favorite this year. I had forgotten about the three that I bought a couple of years ago at a sale, and was happy to find them in a bag in the Christmas decos. And if you look into the little silver ball next to it, you can see me photographing it - ha! Total accident since I'm not nearly clever enough to do that on purpose!

We hear that there's a blizzard on the way. I think I feel a baking frenzy coming on!
