Love Between My Brothers and My Sister...

...who really are all over this land - as the song goes. Today is my little sister's birthday and she is all the way up in the wilds of Alaska! My oldest brother is in Colorado and the younger one in California. I am of course, smack dab in the middle of this land in Iowa. You can see from the photos below that we really have loved each other right from the start and nothing can interfere with that. No number of miles separating us, or stretches of time between visits has ever changed the way we feel toward each other. What a blessing.

Happy birthday to the littlest one and many, many more! You'll always be our big blue-eyed, baby sister! xoxoxoxo

For a gardening update - last night the tomato and pepper seeds were started - here we go!!! I can smell those fresh tomatoes and crisp peppers now!

Well, this is all then.

Love-ly Things

Aren't these seed packets gorgeous?! They're from the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company that I blogged about on 2/5/09 . I love the artistry and the loving care they put into their products - not to mention the careful testing they do to be as certain as they can that there is no GMO contamination in their seed stock. (Have you looked into the issue of GMOs yet? - it's important.) DH and I went through the seed catalog and looked for just the right varieties and DH also had the goal of lots of color in the garden. This picture is a small fraction of what we ordered. We've been down with cold and flu and having this arrive in the mail is the best medicine. C'mon spring!!

And speaking of lovely things - here's what my DH ordered for me for Valentine's Day! These beautiful handmade crafts are from my cousin's new business. She makes such nice things and all the little extra touches like the pretty wrapping, just put it over the top! I've blogged about her before and here's her web address again - http://fullcirclecreationsbyholly.blogspot.com/

Well, this is all then.

Love for Our Girl

We have another birthday in our family this week! Our baby can't possibly be half way through college can she???? Didn't she just turn 5? Didn't I just get this photo back from the Sears studio? Isn't she just about to open up her "My Twin" doll with the matching dress and head band?

But no, she really is grown up now and making a very nice life for herself. I won't offend you with gushing about how wonderful she is, but she really is! She was due on Valentine's Day and has been our Sweetheart ever since. We thank God for her and most importantly that her hope in life lies with Him.

Happy Birthday baby girl! Love and kisses to you!

Love for Friends

We have so many loving friends in our lives and we feel overwhelmingly blessed by that. I've been hoping to blog about our dear friends in Maine and their new greenhouse for so long now! I recently got the pictures from them so here we go!

They built it themselves and though we think of Maine as the frozen tundra, they have obviously been successful in growing lots of wonderful produce right through the winter.

These beautiful veggies...
...became part of this delicious looking New England Boiled Dinner - yummm! Makes me remember their kitchen and the love and food we shared there.

Some of these shots were taken around Thanksgiving and some just after Christmas. They recently finished harvesting their carrots as those were supposed to be out of the ground by February. Not bad huh?! We're very close to using up the majority of our produce that was put up this summer and fall and we've missed our fresh produce so much in these past months. Trying to buy fresh organic produce around here is challenging at best and unbelievably expensive too. We're planning to make a lot of changes to our gardening layout and keeping fingers crossed that a plan for our own greenhouse will materialize as well!

And, there is a certain young man in their family who had a birthday this past Thursday. Here he is in all his cuteness! His uncle is a taxidermist, so what a perfect venue for birthday pics of the boy who loves Davey Crockett. We love you buddy, and your big brother, and your parents, and your grandparents! Have a wonderful Davey Crockett party!

Well, this is all then.

Love for My Gardener

A.K.A. - my dear, DH. He's the 'Birthday Boy' this week. How cute he is! Don't you think every little boy should wear a spiffy bow tie for his school pictures?! Happy Birthday to my love who loves me back so well.

On Love - "It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
1 Corinthians 13:7

And what is the gardener doing these days? Pouring over seed catalogs of course! Here's the pile that was up for consideration. The one from which we'll order this year is pictured standing in the back of the pile - Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. This is a nice little company, started by the owner when he was 17, filling seed orders by himself in his room at home! The business has expanded a lot since then and they are very industrious and creative. You can find them at rareseeds.com

You can look all over the internet and learn about the importance of heirloom gardening and non-GMO seeds as well. Please inform yourself if you haven't already done so. Gardening is making a huge comeback right now and it's really worth planting the healthiest possible plants for your loved ones.

Well, this is all then.
